Intakes:

Intake structures are used for collecting water from the surface sources such as rivers, lakes, and reservoirs and conveying it further to the water treatment plant. These structures are masonry or concrete structures and provide relatively clean water, free from pollution, sand, and objectionable floating material. There are some different types of structures:

• Simple submerged Intake 
• Intake Tower 
• Medium size river intake structure 
• Canal Intakes

Aquifers:

An aquifer is an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock, rock fractures, or unconsolidated materials. Groundwater can be extracted using a water well. The study of water flow in aquifers and the characterization of aquifers is called hydrogeology.

Aquicludes:

An aquiclude is any geological formation that absorbs and holds water but does not transmit it at a sufficient rate to supply springs, wells, etc.

Filters:

Filters are used for water treatment. Water flows through a filter designed to remove particles from within it. The filters are made of layers of sand and gravel, and in some cases, crushed anthracite. Filtration collects the suspended impurities in water, enhancing the effectiveness of disinfection.
